ROSE SMITH Peacefully at Oakview Place on August 10, 2003, our dear Rose was called to join her family. Born in Winnipeg on November 5, 1912, Rose Capper spent her youth growing up on Sherbrook Street until she fell in love with and married John Smith, her husband of 63 years. Rose and John remained in Winnipegs West End raising two sons, Douglas and Lawrence, then later opened their hearts as foster parents before retiring to west St. James. Rose possessed a very kind and generous spirit, helping numerous troubled families during her employ with an inner city homecare agency. Rose was an avid bowler, a 50-year member of a weekly sewing club, and a dedicated camper. She was also the first member of her family to receive a master angler fishing award. Rose and John enjoyed over 30 years of trailering and cottaging with their family at Brereton Lake, as well as numerous holiday trips with their many friends and relatives. Spending time with beloved friends and family was a favourite retirement activity, and Grandma-Rosie could often be found cheering heartily in the stands at her grandsons hockey games. Her final years were spent in good health in the comfort of Oakview Place where her quick wit and warm demeanour endeared her to residents and staff alike. Rose loved life and was loved by everyone around her. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and her positive outlook was a gift admired by many. Rose was predeceased by her husband John, older brother John, and her sons Douglas and Lawrence. Left to cherish beautiful memories are daughter-in-law Beverley, grandsons Jeff and Terry (Karen) and great-grandsons Eric and Alexander. She will be fondly remembered as Auntie Bunnie by many nieces, nephews and relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to a charity of ones choice. A celebration of Roses life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 at Extendicare / Oakview Place, 2395 Ness Ave. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
