GERTRUDE MARIE SADLO October 21, 1934 - August 13, 2003 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Gertrude Marie Sadlo. Trudy is survived by her wonderful husband Garry Doyle; her cherished daughter Kim Ortwein; son-in-law and friend Dale; and her two treasured grandchildren, Tyler and Tabitha. Trudy was born in Vienna, Austria. In 1960 she went on a trip to London, England and stayed for four years. In 1965 the itch to travel returned and Trudy boarded the ocean liner "The Carmania" bound for Canada. It is from this voyage that she developed her love for cruises. Upon arriving in Winnipeg, Mom quickly made many life-long friends. Trudy was always very hard-working and would take any job, often two or three at a time, just so she could earn enough to travel. After her daughter was born, she could not bear to leave her in care of others. Quite by accident Trudy slowly built up a very successful home babysitting business. "Auntie Trudy" was loved by all of "her children". In 1978, she, Garry and Kim moved to McCreary, MB. Here she developed many close friendships once again. I often told Mom she had so many friends because she was such a great friend to have. She had a smile, a friendly wave and a kind word for everyone. In the last few years Moms love for travel returned and she took many trips both alone (Alaskan and Panama Canal cruises) and with family (Australia, Ireland and Victoria, BC). Mom had many other interests which included, raising money for the local swimming pool, quilting, crocheting, jam and jelly making, reading and daily cryptoquote puzzles. She was well known around town for the honey business she and Dad ran. We would like to thank the staff at Cancer Care Manitoba in Winnipeg and Dauphin. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to Dr. Steyn and the wonderful nursing and support staff in the McCreary Hospital. Thanks for all the personal touches you gave Mom - the special foods, the time you took to put on nailpolish or to rub her back or to just hold her hand when she needed it. She could not have received better care anywhere. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Roman Catholic Church in McCreary and at the Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Ladies Legion Hall. Dobchuk Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 1-204-835-2004
