Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN ELIZABETH SCAIFE BN, MSC (Nursing) March 15, 1951 - August 12, 2003 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Elizabeth Scaife on Tuesday, August 12, 2003. She will deeply missed by her husband William J. (Jim) Oke; her children, Karen Elizabeth Oke and William Robert Oke; parents, James Finley and Kay Scaife; sister Barbara Scaife; brother Robert Scaife; and lifelong friend Linda Daniels, all of Winnipeg. Elizabeth was born in Winnipeg and lived her life in St. James. She attended St. James Collegiate and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1972. After a time at Deer Lodge Hospital, she joined the staff of the Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1974 and became a valued teacher and role model for those joining the nursing profession. In 1979, Elizabeth decided to extend her education and attended the University of Hawaii gaining a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in respiratory care. She joined the staff of the Respiratory Hospital of the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg and was instrumental in establishing patient education programs at that institution. Elizabeth also became involved in the Canadian Nurses Respiratory Society and served as President of the Society and on the Board of the Canadian Lung Association from 1986 to 1988. In 1987 Elizabeth resumed her teaching career at the Grace Hospital and was again a highly regarded and respected instructor at the School of Nursing and later in Staff Education at the Grace. She greatly enjoyed teaching and passing on her skills and knowledge of nursing to others. Following retirement from the Grace last year, she had continued as a Nursing Instructor at Red River College. Apart from her successful and distinguished nursing career, Liz had many varied personal interests over the years including judo, singing, flying, walking, needlework, tap-dancing, gardening, reading, Taiko drumming and visits to the Scaife family cottage at Dorothy Lake in the Whiteshell. She was a supportive and caring parent for her children, active in school and community associations and served on the Board at Sturgeon Creek United Church. Liz touched many in her personal and professional life and will be missed by all. Visitation will be at Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. on Sunday, August 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Elizabeths life will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., on Monday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will follow, with private interment of ashes at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of ones choice in Lizs memory would be appreciated by the family. LEATHERDALE GARDINER Funeral Chapel - St. James - 949-4872
