BESSIE BARTON Suddenly, in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 10, 2003, our beloved "Auntie" left this earth into the waiting arms of her parents and siblings. Bessie was born at home on December 11, 1912, the third of four children. Other than a year in Hamilton she lived and worked in Winnipeg. She enjoyed the love of her family and siblings and their families and the close friendships she developed over the years, many from grade school days. She worked for 25 years for T. Eaton Co. mainly in photography, and in the Drug Department office. She also worked for Davidson Studios as a professional photo colorist and for the Federal Government in the Department of Veteran Affairs until her retirement. Bessie was predeceased by her parents, Robert (Bruce) and Maria Barton; her sister Eva Bleakney; and her brothers, Arthur (Art) and John (Jack) Barton. She will be lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces, Gordon Barton (Marg), Jack Barton (Marion), her devoted Louise Lagimodiere (Terry), Shirley Fillion (Alfred), Dawn Elyk (Cliff), Bruce Barton (Audrey), Daphne Shore (Bryan), Dean Bleakney (Shirley), many great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces, whom she loved dearly. As well Bessie will be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law, Juliette Barton and Alice Bleakney, as well as dear friends, Audrey Warriner, Jean Bretz and Beatrice Cummings. Bessie enjoyed a very special bond with her sister Evas daughter Daphne. They were devoted to each other and her memory will be cherished by Daphne and Bryan and their family, Jennifer (Jason) Novak and their children, Dylan, Samantha and Matthew and Tyler Shore (Samantha). Bessie was delighted to celebrate her 90th birthday on December 7, 2002 with an afternoon, tea, which was attended by 50 members of her immediate family. Bessie was a lifelong member of St. Albans Church. She enjoyed many varied interests. She loved the ballet, symphony, crafting, sewing, gardening, travel and her next shopping trip with Daphne or friends. In spite of failing health she still enjoyed every day to the fullest. Thanks to home care, especially Robyn, Evergreena and Nicole, she was able to remain in her cozy suite until her final illness. Cremation has taken place. Interment in the family plot in St. Vital Cemetery will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
