Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHEN EDWARD WALTER LEACH (formerly of Winnipeg) Dad passed away suddenly at home in Brandon, MB on August 14, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Gwen. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 28, 2003. He is also survived by his children, Gerald (Chris) Leach of Calgary, Garry (Virginia) Leach of Canmore, AB, Cheryl (Vic) Falk of Brandon, and Glenn (Michelle) Leach of Winnipeg; and grandchildren, Christopher, Cindy (Clay), Colin, Bryan, Sandy, Madison, Nicholas and Geoffrey. He was predeceased by his infant grandson Victor Jr. in 1988. Dad was born in Winnipeg on December 26, 1917 and was raised there. He served his country during the entire Second World War in the 1st Division R.C.S.C. and was honourably discharged. It was during his service in England that he met and married Mom. After returning home from the war, they resided in North Kildonan. He worked for the City of Winnipeg Waterworks as well as with his two eldest sons helping them accomplish their dreams in the 70s and 80s of starting United Rescue Services. He retired January 19, 1983. Mom and Dad loved to travel in their motor home and Dad loved to bake and read, especially cookbooks. He also loved to do needlepoint until he was diagnosed with macular degeneration. Dad also loved his dogs and over the years had three dachshunds, Heidi, Sassy, Pepper and presently puppy Shay. Mom and Dad moved to Brandon April 2002. At Dads request a private family service will be held in Brandon with cremation to follow. Donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. A Heart of Gold A heart of gold stopped beating Working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither The golden sun may set But the hearts that loved you dearly Are the ones that wont forget.
