SOPHIE LOEWEN On August 14, 2003, Sophie Loewen peacefully and silently slipped away at the age of 93 at Eastview Place in Altona, MB. Sophie will be sadly missed by her children, Ken (Helene), Dennis (Rosemary), Caroline (Herb), Kathy (Red), Val, Pat (Phil), Bev (Eugene) 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters and four brothers. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Klass Loewen; daughter Lenora; one sister and six brothers. Sophie was born May 5, 1910 in Drake, SK. In 1930 she was baptized in the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Edenburg, MB. She married Klass Loewen May 19, 1935. Mom devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Her pride and joy were gardening, knitting, crocheting, making quilts and many crafts. Her faith carried her through many challenges and sorrows. She has fought a good fight. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Gretna, MB with interment to follow in the Gretna Cemetery. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and at the Church prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff at Eastview Place for the excellent care, ministers, Terry Wiebe and friends and relatives.
