GLADYS DOREEN McMILLAN It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Doreen McMillan announces her passing on August 7, 2003 at the Glenboro Personal Care Home. Doreen was a loving Mom to Beth (Allen) Diehl, Pat (Brent) Robertson, and Gordon; a devoted Grandma to Clint, Damian, Tari, Ryan, and Trish; and a caring Great-Grandma to Megan and Kayla. Also a cherished sister to Alice Maxton, sister-in-law to Ina Chapman and Roy McMillan, and a favourite aunt to many nieces and nephews, as well as a kind friend to many. Mom was born on November 27, 1922 in Holland, MB, to the late Charles and Amelia Smith. She attended school in the Rae District and then as a teenager moved to Thunder Bay, ON. While living in Thunder Bay she worked as a waitress and was employed in the War Plant. At the end of the war she returned to Manitoba and married her long-time boyfriend, Hugh Lawrence "Mac" McMillan, who had been serving overseas. Mom and Dad were married September 24, 1949 in the Presbyterian Church in Carberry, MB. Dad was employed with Manitoba Hydro and their first home was in Hamiota, MB. In 1953 the family moved to Rossburn, MB, residing there until 1966, then moving to Glenboro, MB where Mom resided until her death. Moms first priority was her family. Other joys in her life were nature, bird watching, and visiting over a cup of coffee. Mom was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 1977. After many years a wheelchair was her constant companion. The disease took her body but not her mind or those sparkly, expressive eyes. Mom was predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law, son Brian in 1969, husband Mac in 1981, sister-in-law Florence McMillan, and brothers-in-law Jim Chapman and Alex Maxton. A private family interment was held at the Carberry cemetery and a celebration of life was held at Marshs Lake in Spruce Woods Provincial Park, with Rev. Milo Spooner-Craig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Glenboro Personal Care Home or Glenboro Palliative Care are appreciated. Jamiesons Funeral Service were in care of the arrangements.
