SAMUEL SHIER Born in Winnipeg May 16, 1915 - August 13, 2003 It is with sadness that our father, grandfather and great-grandfather had to leave us Wednesday morning at 3:00 a.m. He was finally resting peacefully when he took his final breath and went to be with his wife Irma, who left us suddenly on October 22, 1997. For 11 years, he struggled with the effects of a stroke, feeling that there were things he wanted to do, but couldnt. He loved working and maintaining his cottage at Falcon Lake. It was his pride and joy; and then to be able to sit on the deck and look over that lake, especially at sunset. There were many happy times with family and friends. Dad also had a green thumb, at one point growing 200 varieties of gladiolas, which won many ribbons at flower shows. We also remember when Dad took his "boys" hunting and fishing, instilling in us the love of the outdoors. Dad worked at C.A. DeFehr for a number of years and then at Gulf Oil until he retired at age 63. The family would like to give a special thank you to all the nurses and caregivers at the Bethania Personal Care Home. It takes a special person to do this kind of work. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Amelia; four brothers, Adolph, John, Adam and Henry; and two sisters, Kate and Betty. He is survived by one sister, Minnie (Henry) Plett; and one brother, Andrew (Olga) Shier; in-laws, Harry and Mary Willms, Jake and Erica Harder and Helen Harder. He will be missed by his four children: Richard and Sunny; grandchildren, Cari (Jeff) Didham, Lisa (Scott) Smith, Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Cory; Vern and Ruth; grandsons, Byron and Owen of Edmonton; Rita and John Boese of Goodyear, Arizona; Carl and Terry; grandchildren, Christine (Ron) Smith and their children Olivia and Samuel, Shelley (Lindsay) Stenberg and their children Ethan and Tatum. The service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 18 with Reverend Keith Poysti officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S7. Resting in the arms of our Father Safe is our loved one now, At peace in heavens haven. We will see you later Dad. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
