EDWIN A. SKENE CA. Edwin passed away on Friday, August 15, 2003, at the Deer Lodge Hospital after a lengthy illness. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan, his daughter Nancy (Garry), his special granddaughter Courtney, his sisters, Gertrude Hainsworth and Kathleen Tompsett and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his brother George. Ed was born in Deloraine, MB and lived on the family farm until he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. Ed trained as a pilot and received his wings in Brandon, serving as a bomber pilot on a Lancaster in 424 squadron based in England. Returning to civilian life with the rank of flight lieutenant, Ed moved to Winnipeg. He joined the firm of Armstrong and Williams, CA where he apprenticed and attended the University of Manitoba, obtaining his Chartered Accountants Degree. In later years he became Senior Partner of Williams, Skene and Co. Ed was life member of the R.C.A.F. Association and Wartime Pilots and Observers Association. Ed was an active member of Khartum Temple serving as Treasurer for many years, also serving as Treasurer of the Circus Committee, Ritualistic Unit, Winnipeg Unit of Shiners Hospital, Riverview C.C., and the Rehab Centre for Children. As well he was a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonary and valued all his associations and friendships through these groups. The family would like to convey a special thank you to all the nurses and home care staff that cared for Dad over the many years enabling him to remain at home, the friends and neighbours that helped and the Deer Lodge staff for the past year of care. A memorial service in celebration of Eds life will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Garry Memorial Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Eds memory may be made to the Arthritis Society - Manitoba Division.
