Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSIE HOFER On Saturday, August 16, 2003, at 11:15 p.m. at St. Boniface Hospital, Susie Hofer (aged 94) fulfilled her heartfelt desire, and went to be with Jesus. She was born March 10, 1909 to Joseph Maendel and Katrina Hofer at Alexandria, SD U.S.A. where the family had immigrated from Russia. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to Manitoba. They came by train, and settled near St. Eustache, MB at Rosedale Colony. On February 17, 1929, Mom married our Dad, Paul Hofer, with whom she shared 70 years together, until his death on March 18, 1999. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Paul (Katie), Sarah (Bruce), Lena (Bill), Katie (Simon), Susie (Chris), Joe (Irene), Judy (Dick), Becky, Ann, Dave (Mary), Tom (Diane), Hannah (Ralph) and Lisa (Ed), 36 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. One other child Lydia, died in childbirth. Of her 12 brothers and three sisters, she is survived by her loving sister Mary, and five brothers, John, Sam, Peter, Edward and Darius. In her life, she loved to cook, and served as head cook for the colony for some time. Often in her rest periods she could be found reading cookbooks; she emphasized healthy balanced meals and loved to introduce new dishes. Then Mom became the head "Zeich Schneider", buying fabric and distributing it to all the women in the colony. She was also in charge of the kindergarten, where she cared for the pre-schoolers and enjoyed telling innumerable stories. For a time she was also a midwife, assisting in home births. She found great joy in the company of her family, with whom she spent countless hours singing. Whenever there was anything spiritual, she felt joy. She found community as a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church. She loved Scripture, and one of her beloved verses was John 11:24, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die". In 1986 she and Dad moved to Winnipeg to stay with their daughter. It was Sarah Nordin who provided many years of loving care for our parents, right until Moms passing. A wake will be held on Tuesday, August 19 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, corner or Gertrude and Nassau St. N. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, interment at St. Vital Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderfully patient and professional care provided by the staff of St. Boniface Emergency, Ward A6 and Dr. M. Davey.
