CLARE ALEXANDRA MACDONALD Her family are saddened to report the passing of Clare Alexandra Macdonald, aged 47, in Dartmouth, NS, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Sydney, NS, Clare was a graduate of Sydney Academy, Dalhousie University, Mississippi University for Women, St. Marys University, and Mount St. Vincent University. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Alexandra and John Daniel Macdonald (Glace Bay, NS) and Mary Elizabeth and Dr. Matthew Ronan (Antigonish, NS) father Dr. Francis B. "Frank" Macdonald (Sydney) uncle John J. Ronan, PhD (Antigonish) aunt Mary Catherine (Ronald) MacKinnon (Glace Bay). Clare was a dedicated Speech Pathologist with the Halifax Regional School Board for twenty years. She enjoyed downhill skiing, rowing, travel, gemstones and jewelry, and antiquing. She was admired for her panache, her ability to make something gorgeous out of almost nothing, and her kindness to others. She died peacefully at home with her husband, WA "Sandy" Hogan, just 23 hours after they had been married by Father David Poirier. Funeral mass was celebrated by Father Poirier in Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, Cole Harbour, with readings by Andrew Macdonald and Monica Heine. Cremation has taken place. She is survived by her mother Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Macdonald (Sydney) sister Audrey (Winnipeg) brothers, Francis W. "Frank" (Colleen), Dartmouth, Andrew, Perth, ON, Ira (Alison), Sydney; sisters-in-law Monica Heine (Kingston, ON), Mary Goguen (Bathurst, NB), Aileen Hogan (Wolfville, NS) aunt Dr. Alice Ronan (BC) uncle Dr. Graham (Inez) Ronan (NY) cousins, Kathryn, John, and Graeme Ronan (BC) and Christine, Peter, and Paul Ronan (USA). Loving nieces and nephews are Graeme and Allison Macdonald (Dartmouth), Ross and Christina Macdonald (Sydney), and Andrew Goguen (Bedford, NS). Special thanks to Drs. Bentley, MacIntyre, and Robertson, staff of 5A at QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, Victorian Order of Nurses, and Palliative Care nurses. Heartfelt thanks also to friends, colleagues, and students who sent so many wonderful cards, gifts, and messages, wigs and clothing, Mass cards, and made donations in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (NS Branch) and QEII Health Sciences Centre (Oncology Unit).
