ANNIE HIEBERT Annie Isabel (Annabelle) Hiebert passed away on August 18, 2003 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB. Annabelle was born September 18, 1923 in Fort William, ON and in 1932, moved to Winnipeg. She became one of the youngest students in Manitoba to graduate high school in the 1930s. She served in the Navy during the war and was stationed in St. John, NL. She was a writer (navy clerical position), which she worked at during the day. In the evenings she was the Avalon Orchestra Vocal Soloist, charming both Canadian and United States service men and women with songs like "The White Cliffs of Dover" and "Sentimental Journey". After her discharge in 1946, she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Gimli. She married Henry Hiebert in 1967 and they resided in Winnipeg. They purchased a home in Gimli in 1977 and would catch a bus every Friday for their home in Gimli. When they finally retired they moved to Gimli full time (a place they really loved). Henry passed away in May 1998. Annabelle is survived by her sister Mary (Danny) Collette of Vernon BC; her nephew Bill (Jennifer) Collette and their three children, Danielle, Rachelle and Jackson of Parksville BC; her nephew Bob Collette, her confidante of Parksville, BC; her many wonderful friends and neighbours in Gimli. Annabelles family would like to thank a very special couple, Mary and Dave Munro, who have been there for Annabelle and Henry, for everything they have done. Thank you to the home care workers and nurses who cared for Annabelle. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Johnson Memorial Hospital, PO Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
