Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL DOUGLAS CHARTIER September 3, 1923 - August 4, 2003 After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer and diabetes, our father was called home, Monday, August 4, 2003, his family by his side. God took him in his arms. He took away his tiredness. He took away his pain. He took away our father and well never be the same. Although our eyes are teary they are also tears of joy because our father is now with his parents; brothers; sisters; children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. We know that now hes happy. His time on earth is through. Hell now be watching over us as all the spirits do. Sam was born Monday, September 3, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MB, to the Late Samuel Turner and Angelique Chartier. Sam was united in marriage to Miriam Scott, Monday, February 17, 1947 at Grand Rapids, MB. Sam and Miriam resided in Grand Rapids all their lives and is where they loved and raised eight sons and seven daughters. As a young man, Sam would fish, hunt, and trap, to provide for his family, doing this until their livelihood was destroyed. At that time he began work with Manitoba Hydro and worked for them until his retirement. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and he especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He had a nickname for almost everyone of them and would make up a song for them. The one thing he always liked to do is playfully bite their little fingers with his one sharp tooth. Mom would tell him not to do that. Sam would spend long hours playing cards and bingo with his family and friends. Fathers way of letting us know it was time for bingo was "well what are we waiting for?" Father was always so proud and loving of his grandchildren. He was especially very proud of one grandson, Walter Chartier, who graduated from the R.C.M.P. Academy in Regina, SK in July 2000. Sam was a very dear and loving man and he showed his love in laughter and song. He was always there for you through the good times and the bad. Sam will be dearly missed and he will be lovingly remembered for his wonderful sense of humour. Sam leaves to mourn his passing his beautiful and faithful wife of 56 years, Miriam; sons, Ken (Loretta), Clarence, Colin (Theresa), Ralph (Maureen), Randy (Bernadette), Robert, Derek; daughters, Margaret Chartier, Flora (Donnie) Kematch, Rita (Claude) Beardy, Beatrice (Phillip) Lathlin, Mary (Gordon) Dick; 37 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; Godchildren; sister-in-law, Melinda (Don) Robinson; brothers-in-law, Archie (Gladys) Scott, Norman (Janet) Scott, Russell (Beatrice) Scott; and extended family members and friends.
