Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARNO WISCHNEWSKI With concern for his family foremost in his thoughts, Arno died at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, August 18, 2003 at the age of 71, surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father and very gentle and kind opa. He was born in East Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Arno was a gifted carpenter with high personal standards for work quality. He worked first for Commonwealth and then Poole Construction, before becoming a self-employed contractor. Arno loved his cottage at Pickerel Lake, where he could be with his family, pick blueberries and mushrooms and engage in his absolute favourite pastime of fishing. He leaves to mourn his wife Elli; son Ralph and his wife Veronika and their daughter Matea of Switzerland; son Bruno and his wife Gwen and their daughters, Laura and Angela of Winnipeg; daughter Cora and her husband David and their sons, Lucas and Angus of Surrey, BC; siblings, Hilda, Gerhard, Waldi, Alfred, Astrid, Jeanette and their families; aunts, Berta Wirnhier and Else Dyck; and friends. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22, at 10:30 a.m., at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, with Rev. Kathy Koop officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arnos memory to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2K 3S7. Opa, we love you so much and miss you terribly.
