RONALD T. CURTIS June 27, 1930 - August 17, 2003 Peacefully with his family by his side, Ron passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2003. Ron was predeceased by his loving wife of over 40 years Ruth and very recently his twin brother Donald. Ron leaves to cherish his many memories his two sons, David (Gabrielle), Jeff (Kathy) his grandchildren, Trevor, Dana, Evan and Jessica. Ron also leaves behind his brothers, Bernard, John; and sister Violet. Ron will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews and friends. Ron was born and raised in Winnipeg, having lived in Fort Rouge where he attended Sir Isaac Brook School and graduated from Kelvin High School in 1948. He enjoyed spending his entire summers at the family cottage at Grand Beach where he met his wife-to-be Ruth. Ron began his 38 year career with Manitoba Hydro in the mail room, subsequently obtaining his CMA designation and retiring as manager of customer accounts. Ron significantly contributed to his community and those who lived in it. This included years of dedicated and distinguished service to the Credit Union system (1969 to 1977) and the Heart and Stroke Foundation (1979 to 1989). Through his many hours of service to the Credit Union system, Ron held many leadership roles such as director and president of Hy-Line Credit Union, director of the Credit Union League of Manitoba, chairman of the Credit Union Stabilization Fund, director and president of the Cooperative Credit Union Society of Manitoba, and director and vice president of the National Association of Canadian Credit Unions. Rons volunteerism then led him to help others through the Heart and Stroke Foundation where he held the positions of Manitoba Board Member, president of the Manitoba Foundation as well as director and vice president of the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation where his term was cut short to care for his ill wife. Rons service was recognized with the rarely awarded Distinguished Service Award of Canada - Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Rons leisure activities included being an avid golfer, bowler, photographer and coach of youth sports programs. Regardless of his professional, volunteer and leisure activities, Ron was first and foremost a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. It is for this that he will be remembered most in the hearts and minds of his family and friends. A celebration of Rons life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rons memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
