VIOLET GERTRUDE SIMMONS (nee JACKSON) Vi Simmons passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2003 at the Grace Hospital. Mother was predeceased by her husband Mickey in January, 1970. Vi was born on December 23, 1915 to James and Gertrude Jackson. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Moira and Daisy; and her brothers, John and Tommy. She is survived by her brother Raymond (Elsie) Jackson. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Gail Johnson; her grandson Glenn Mitchell (Gayle) Callis; and her great-grandsons, Steve and Warren Callis. Vi was a person who established and maintained lifelong attachments. She graduated from Daniel McIntrye Collegiate, and resided all her life in the West End of Winnipeg. Vi and husband Mickey were active members of the community, St. Matthews Anglican Church and founding members of the John M. King Home and School Association. Her main life focus was the nurturing of children, and all the children knew her as "Granny." When there were no young children to attend to, she worked at Eatons. She loved working with the customers and her coworkers and continued these friendships long after retirement. She travelled across North America with the Eatons Retirement Club. Special thanks to the ICU staff at the Grace Hospital and the nurses on the second floor, especially Andrea. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
