ELIZABETH MILLER ANTENBRING July 6, 1905 - July 8, 2003 On July 8, 2003, two days after her 98th birthday, Betty Antenbring died in her home, with the astonishing grace and modesty for which she was known by her family and friends. She was born to Hugh and Mary MacDonald in Glasgow in 1905. The MacDonalds, including Betty and her brothers, George and Jack, immigrated to Winnipeg in 1913. Her brother Crosbie was born in Winnipeg in 1915. Betty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She will be missed by her brother-in-law Stan Antenbring and by his wife Hazel, as well as by her sister-in-law Fern MacDonald, and many nieces and nephews. She married C.V. "Andy" Antenbring in 1928. They moved to St. James in 1939 where she lived until this week. They raised their daughter Elizabeth and their son Robert on Overdale Drive, and on Portage Avenue overlooking the Assiniboine River, in a house designed by her energetic and enterprising husband. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth and her husband Ken Walton. Their sons, Keith, Gary, Glen and Scott cherished her. She took great pleasure in the visits of Keith; Gary and his wife Nancy, and their son Nicholas; in the company of Glen and his wife Elizabeth, and their children, Benjamin, Miller and Claire; as well as in the presence of Scott and his wife Meg, and their children, Maggie, Andrew, Elizabeth and Peter. She is also survived by her son A.R. "Bob" Antenbring and his wife Joy. She will be remembered with profound fondness by their four children, Christine and her husband Mikhail Hallak, Heather, Michael, and Kathryn and her husband Paul Yee. Betty nurtured a long and fulfilling marriage with her husband. They travelled together throughout the world, and kept company with a large circle of friends, both in Winnipeg and Lake of the Woods. Her eight grandchildren were among the greatest delights in her life, as were her great-grandchildren in her later years. She was a long-time member of the PEO Chapter B and volunteered for many years with the White Cross Guild of the Winnipeg General Hospital. Betty was a remarkably happy person with an uncanny ability to build rapport. Her smile and sparkling eyes were the hallmarks of her charm. Her kindness and lucidity seemed only to increase as she grew older. She will be dearly missed. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Erica Neumann of Seniors Comfort, as well as to the many competent nurses and caregivers who facilitated her last years in the comfort of her home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25 at Deer Lodge United Church, on Belvidere Street and Portage Avenue. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to the C.V.
