ROBERT (BOB) J. LOEPPKY January 26, 1936 - August 20, 2003. With his entire family by his side, Bob Loeppky passed away at home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Bob was survived by his wife of 40 years Helen; his sons, Cam (Cindy) and Greg (Cathy) his granddaughters, Lorissa and Jessica; his sisters, Doreen (Bob) and Barb (Bill) his brother Vern (Gerri). He was also survived by his brother-in-law Henry and sister-in-law Nell. He leaves to mourn his nieces and nephews, Val, Jer (Connie), Rob (Melanie), Darryl (Meredith), Shawna (Dean), Ryan, Chris, Jason, David, Rick (Karen), Joan (Don), Rob (Cheryl) and Ron. Bob was predeceased by his father Cornelius in 1976 and his mother Marie in 1980. Bob was born in Winnipeg, grew up in Rosenfeld and then moved to Plum Coulee. Bob started his airline career with CP Air at the age of 19 and worked in Norman Wells (NWT) for four years. He joined Air Canada in 1961 and completed a 31-year career in various management positions in Winnipeg before retiring in 1992. One of Bobs loves was baseball. He had a very successful playing career in Southern Manitoba. He was a Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame inductee with the 1955 Plum Coulee Pirates baseball team just last year. He played fastball in Winnipeg and then turned to coaching where he coached a number of teams over the years. In 1986, his Polo Park Inn fastball team won the city Championship. He subsequently went on to coach the McKay United Fastball team where in 1988 they won the Canadian Native Fastball Championship in Invermere, B.C. and also won the Provincial Senior "B" Mens FastPitch Championships. Bob was recognized that year, as Softball Manitobas coach of the year. Bob was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off his back. He was always there for his family and friends to lend a hand and help with his expertise and experience. He was a very big hearted and kind person and he will be missed by all. We would like to thank all the familys close friends for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. We would especially like to thank Dr. C. Winogrodzka, Bobs family physician; Mark Shepherd, Palliative Care Coordinator and nurses, Mariette and Louise and the rest of the Palliative Care people for their help, caring and support. A memorial service will take place Monday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Reception will follow. Honorary pallbearers will be Katherine McKay and the McKay United Fastball team.
