HELEN JUNE HAMILTON Peacefully and with dignity, Helen June Hamilton passed away on Friday, August 22, 2003. She will be forever lovingly remembered by her children and their families, Sherryl and Ed Puchlik, Calley, Lindsay, Brent and great-grandson Finley; David and Alenka Hamilton, Jennifer, Ashley, Lauren and Mark; Joanne and Bruce Acthim, Carling and Kiersten. Mum is survived by her brother Gordon Wickend of Lethbridge, AB and her loving sister Vida Simon of St. John, NB. Born in Sheho, SK, Mom moved to Winnipeg when she was 24 where she completed her nursing degree at St. Boniface Hospital in 1939. She had met our father, Homer during the time he operated the elevator in Saltcoats, SK. Dad courted Mum throughout her nursing training and in 1940 they were married and moved to Sperling, MB where they lived the majority of their married life. They had a wonderful relationship and created a warm and loving home for us. Although Mom did not nurse in hospitals after her marriage, she never lost her nursing skills and compassion and was readily available to her friends and neighbours for advice. Her passion was her husband and family. She was the proud wife of Homer and supported his ventures in farming and later, with great honour, when he became MLA for Dufferin from 1959 to 1969. Dad passed in 1997 and Mom resided in the apartment for as long as her health allowed. For the past year, she resided at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank, MB where she received care and respect from a wonderful staff. The family is truly grateful to them. Mom was a great friend to many people and bore a tremendous sense of community. Her loves were many. She was an accomplished seamstress - no project was too big. She excelled at bowling, enjoyed cards and bingo and travelled with friends when her health allowed. Mum sang for years with the United Church choir in Sperling and truly enjoyed that. Mum suffered for many years with the anguish of arthritis, but her strength and courage carried her through to the end. Never once did she ask, why me. Thankfully her suffering has eased. If we learned anything from you Mom, it was your sense of independence and fortitude. You were always there for us and you leave behind a legacy of love and dedication for which we are eternally grateful. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Carman United Church, Carman, MB. Following interment at Sperling cemetery, a reception will be held at Sperling Arena. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society. We wish to express our gratitude to Charlene at Concordia Emergency for making Mums final journey so dignified.
