Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHJALTI JOHNSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hjalti Johnson of Lundar, MB, on August 22, 2003, at the Eriksdale Hospital after a lengthy illness. Hjalti was born on August 30, 1910, in the Stoney Hill area and resided in this district all his life. He spent his lifetime farming the family farm along with his brother Ragnar. In 1985 he retired from farming, and in 1993 moved into Lundar with his brother and two sisters. Hjalti was a very quiet and gentle man who had a great interest in reading and was very supportive of community and charitable concerns. He was a member of the Icelandic National League, Lundar Chapter, a member of the Otto Church and a member of the Lundar Lutheran Church, as well as many other organizations over the years. Hjalti was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Brynjolfur Johnson; one brother Ragnar; three sisters, Pauline Johnson, Rosa Johnson and Hlif Thompson; a brother-in-law Helgi Thompson; two nephews, Stanley and Clifford Thompson. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, Margaret Tomasson, Eileen Nesbitt, Eleanor Thompson, Betty (Lou) Berthelet, Harold Thompson, May (Roger) Ryplanski, Allan (Louise) Thompson, Linda (Bruce) Hoffstrom, Sylvia (Clint) Smith, Robert Thompson and Vera Thompson. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday August 27, at 2:00 p.m. in the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Interment to follow in the Otto Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Myles Munroe, Damian Stiles, Debbie Nesbitt, Lori Evenden, Brent Thompson and Rick Ryplanski. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lundar Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 216, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook, St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Burnett and the staff of the Eriksdale Hospital for their kind, sympathetic and professional care. We would also like to thank special friends Bob and Pat Roberts and Bob and Judy Gleich who were always there for Hjalti, and also thanks to his many other friends for their support during his illness.
