HELEN LOUISE METZGER With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother and grandmother Helen, on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre, with her loving family by her side. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Yolande (Dave) Gulowaty and Patrick (Gloria) Metzger; grandchildren, Ryan Gulowaty, Kristin (Bryan) Buchalter, Michelle Gulowaty (fiance Jeremy Thiessen), and Justin, Sean and Katie Metzger. She will be sadly missed by her brother George Voellinger, sister Irene (Karl) Renger, nieces, nephews and friends. Helen was predeceased by her infant daughter, parents, husband Alfred in 1996, sister Mary Plominski in 1997, and most recently, her brother Bill Vollinger in June 2003. Helen was born on October 6, 1919 in Poland, and came to Canada in 1955 with her husband Alfred and children to re-unite with her parents and siblings. Mom spent her career as a talented dressmaker, but her true joy was her family. Her door was always open and her hospitality renowned. Mom and Dad loved to travel; their trailer became a second home on many trips south and for summers at Falcon Lake. After travelling to many exotic locations, Hawaii became a favourite vacation spot for Mom - even after Dads passing she enjoyed going there with her beloved daughter Yolande, as recently as January of this year. Moms never-ending devotion to her family is a fine inspiration for us to follow. Although her passing has left a big hole in the family, she will live on in our hearts forever. A special thank you to Drs. Saettler and Stimpson, and nurses Carla, Gail and Cynthia of SICU, for their exceptional care and support to Mom and the family during this difficult time. Prayers will be said Wednesday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., with Fr. Larry Kondra CSsR officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Helens memory to The Welcome Home, 188 Euclid Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 2X1. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
