MALCOM GRAEME McASKILL CAPTAIN MAC Flew his last approach in Scripts Hospital, La Jolla, California August 24, 2003. What a life! A life to which most people can only dream. As a young lad he was a lifeguard at Clear Lake in Manitoba. This was a job that is the answer to most young lads dreams. Sitting on the beach all-day and having all the young ladies trying to make his acquaintance. Hockey was important in his early years. A midget championship in Manitoba and later playing in Scotland and Switzerland. The Swiss team in Grindelwald did win the Series "A" championship with his playing and coaching. Returning to Canada he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Pilot, having previously qualified as a Private Pilot. After qualifying on jets and gunnery school he did join Canadian Pacific Airlines. The airline life found him all over the world. He managed to play golf on most continents. At the same time he did continue to fly with the RCAF (Reserve). He flew Mustangs, Sabers, plus few hours on a Spitfire. He progressed from the right seat of a DC-3, to DC-6s on to the Britannia; he Captained 737s,and DC-8s and finished his career as a DC-10 Captain. He was highly respected by his associates and had the reputation of always taking care of his crews. He became closely associated with the MOT accident investigation services. He married Peggy in 1968 and acquired Paige and Tom, only to lose Peggy to cancer. He subsequently married Carol, lady friend from years ago she survives him in La Jolla where he spent his last years. Grandchildren Carlee, Daniel, Michael, Ryan, Casey, and Kyle survive. Shed not a tear as no one ever lived better. His ashes will be scattered at places that were of importance to him. A short tribute to him will be held at the Tsawwassen Golf Club, at a later date.
