EDWARD EMMANUEL KAATZ After a long and fulfilling life, Edward (Ed) Kaatz peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on August 27, 2003. Ed was born on February 13, 1913 at Brokenhead, MB. He married Mabel (Thomas) on November 14, 1939. Ed accomplished many things over the years, not the least of which were his mink farm and trucking business in Victoria Beach, MB and the Star Grocery and Eds Gulf Service Station in Burnaby, BC. After his retirement in 1973, Ed and Mabel spent several years travelling and panning for gold (which remained elusive). Once they had settled in Victoria Beach, Ed whiled away his time in his infamous garden, of which many shared in its bountiful harvests. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Mabel (Thomas) daughter Ruth (Glyn Thomas) sons, Reuben and Wayne; grandchildren, Glynda Thomas, Glyn E. Thomas, Allen Kaatz (Diane), Christine (Brian Watson) great-grandchildren, Jade, Renea, Carly, Dustin and Haley. Ed will be sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, Martha, Al (Betty), Leon (Joan), Wilfred, Lori (Ian), Georgiana (Clarence), Evelyn, Alma (John), Harold (Ellen) brothers-in-law, Gordon (Louise), John (Ann) and sister-in-law Gladys (Garf Monkman) numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was predeceased by his father August Kaatz; stepfather Herman Stebbe; mother Otillie Stebbe; brother Herb; sister Helena (Caligure) stepbrothers, Roy and Garry Stebbe. Viewing will be at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, at the Wayside Gospel Chapel in Grand Marais. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m.. Alex Cross will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Victoria Beach Cemetery. A celebration of Eds life will be held after the interment at the Victoria Beach Senior Scene, Ateah Road. Pallbearers will be Brian Watson, Dustin Watson, Brian Gray, Murray Schneider, Nelson Hastman and Tommy Stucky. Honorary pallbearers: Allen Kaatz, Willie Monkman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Bible Camp at 1881 Portage Ave., P.O. Box 42059, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3X7. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB in charge of arrangements. You were always there when we needed you No task too great or small, With a loving heart and a willing hand For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us And for the times we shared, We only pray that when you left You knew how much we cared. God saw you getting tired When a cure was not to be, He put His arms around you And whispered, "Come to Me".
