Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES BROOKS McBURNEY Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the Portage District General Hospital, James Brooks McBurney of Portage La Prairie, beloved husband of Jean McBurney, passed away at the age of 71 years. At Jims request, no formal service will be held with a private interment of the cremated remains to be held in Hillside Cemetery, Hartney, MB, at a later date. Jim was born on July 30, 1932, son of Joyce and Harriet McBurney at Hartney, MB, where he was raised and received his education. He then helped on the family farm and in the family run implement dealership in Hartney for a number of years. In 1954 he married Jean Williams and together they lived in Hartney until 1961 when they moved to Portage La Prairie where he worked for the Manitoba Government. In 1975 they moved to The Pas, MB, where he continued to work for the government until 1979 when they purchased and ran the Overflow Services at Overflowing River, MB. He then retired and moved to Wanless, MB and lived there until 2002 when he returned to Portage. Jim loved life in the north. His enjoyment came from hunting, fishing and spending time with his dogs. Predeceased by his parents and one brother, Donald; he leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 48 years, Jean; one sister, Betty (Harvey) Saunderson of Souris, MB; one brother, Terry (Suzanne) of Pembroke, ON; and several nieces and nephews. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Avenue East, Portage La Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8 or the Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524 Fifth St. SE, Portage La Prairie, MB, R1N 3A8.
