VELVA PLANTE (HANNAH)
Date of Passing: Aug 28, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVELVA PLANTE (nee HANNAH) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Velva Plante, on Thursday, August 28, 2003, at the age of 78 years. Mom was born in Toronto, ON, and moved to Manitoba with her family at a very young age. Mom worked for Goldbergs (furrier), when she met and married Ben Plante in 1946. While she was raising her family, Mom worked for a number of years at Eatons mail order. Velva and Ben resided in St. Boniface until they moved to Cooks Creek in the early 1960s. When she quit Eatons she remained at home and raised her three children. Velva was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and family. She also loved and spoke highly of her great Hazelridge and Cooks Creeks neighbours, especially Ruby, Walter, Frances, Tony and Nellie. She really loved a good neighbourly argument. She wrote proudly for the "Beaver" (Hazelridge and Cooks Creek area). She was nicknamed the community scoop and BSer by Dad. Velva always tried to find the humour of everyday life. Velva is survived by her son Frederick (Pat) daughter Dawn (Wally) and son Kelly (Connie) grandchildren, Candace Berrie of Whitehorse, YK, Judith Berrie (Kevin) of Hazelridge and Suzanne (Paul) DeGagne of Winnipeg, Tammy and Lorne Plante of Cooks Creek, Mike (Maureen) and Teresa (Roland) of Springfield. Velva will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Joanne Plante; brother-in-law Frank Roeland; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ben earlier this year; her parents William and Pearl Hannah; and her brother Marvin and wife Sofie. Heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and doctors on 3E at Concordia Hospital and to Dr. Bruce Kowaluk and the nurses at Kin Place. Prayers will be held on Monday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. in P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Viewing one half hour prior. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road, with Rev. Dawn Ballantine-Dickson officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Manitoba Division, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1S6, or to Pleasant View Nursing Home. I didn't know grandma very well. I remember Connie taking me to the farm in the summer time when I was allowed to visit her and Kelly. I remember going swimming at the pits near by and grandma making me jam sandwiches. I wish I got more time with the family that was kept from me all those years. - Posted by: Michael Lajoie (Grandson ) on: Feb 06, 2024
