DAVID T. SGAYIAS, Q.C. Passed away suddenly on August 24, 2003, at his home in Ottawa, in his 53rd year. Son of the late Perciles Sgayias and the late Vasilo Sgayias, nephew of Elaine Evans of Winnipeg and Diane Sgayias of Denver, CO, and cousin of Mark Evans, David Evans, and Karen Daeninck of Winnipeg. At the time of his death, David was the Chief General Counsel of the Federal Department of Justice, a well-known author of legal texts on Federal Court Practice and Crown liability, and a member of the board of directors of The Advocates Society. He was the recipient of the Law Society of Upper Canada Treasurers Medal and the Department of Justice John Tait Award for ethical and professional excellence. David was highly respected by his peers in the legal profession and greatly admired by his many friends and colleagues in the Department of Justice and the Government of Canada. A service in celebration of Davids life will be held at the National Arts Centre, 53 Elgin Street at Confederation Square, Ottawa, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
