MAGNUS (MIKE) BENEDIKT JOHNSON Its with deep sadness and great sorrow that the family of Magnus Johnson announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on August 29, 2003. Dad is survived by the love of his life for 59 years, Rose nee Stratton; his children, Gary (Maija) Murray, Arlene (Randy) Lelliott and Lorraine (Eric) Becker; grandchildren, Murray (Debbie), Daryl (Barb), Glen (Debbie), Richard, Elizabeth (Matthew), Jonathan and Alyson; his great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kristen, Amber, Bailee, Bree and Brittany; and his sister Oddney Borley. Magnus was predeceased by his parents, Geiri and Erikka; sisters, Inga and Lily; brothers, Harry, John and Sigurjon. Magnus was born August 20, 1922 in Arborg, MB, where he fell in love and married Rose Stratton on December 11, 1943. Dad joined the Air Force and served until 1945. After the war, they settled in Winnipeg. Their home at 781 was a beacon to all. It was filled with love and laughter, especially on Saturday nights. He spent many fun-filled vacations with his family all over the world, but he loved the Icelandic Festival in Gimli best where he entertained all. He was always very proud of his heritage. Mike was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Throughout his illness, Dad displayed remarkable courage and strength. He was above all a loving husband and father, a devoted friend and always a gentleman. His wonderful sense of humour, his love and compassion for all is his legacy. He will live in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. The family wishes to thank all those who showed love and support during Dads illness. A special thanks to Robert Bishop at St. Boniface Emergency Department. If friends desire, donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., R3L 0K6. To a beautiful life came a sudden end. He died as he lived, everyones friend. He had a sense of humour that made things such fun. He always had a friendly word to say to everyone. We will always love you. Now youre our angel watching over us. • It’s been almost 20 years since I’ve seen or heard your voice. But I still have so many memories. I’ll never forget the times of me waking up on Christmas or special occasions and just waiting for my parents to drive me over to your home. I remember all the conversations we had. All the adventures you would take me on. Every walk along the red river and forks. Every time I was over, in the summer you would take me to a park where we would sit by the roses and tell me many stories of the past, your past. I miss you and grandma every day. - Posted by: Kristyn (Granddaughter) on: Apr 25, 2020
