ELLA RAE HALSALL A loving sister, aunt and friend, Ella Rae Halsall passed away on August 29, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre after a lengthy illness. Ella was born in Winnipeg on March 11, 1922 and grew up in the West End, attending Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. She went on to attend the University of Manitoba, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy at a time when there were few women in the field. She served her apprenticeship at Browns Drug Store on Academy Road and, after attaining her degree, returned to work there for seven years. She moved to Braithwaites Limited in 1952, serving as a pharmacist in both the retail and wholesale stores, until her retirement in 1986. Ella was a warm, generous, genuine lady. Her family was extremely important to her. She enjoyed spending time with them, hearing from them and keeping abreast of their activities. She appreciated the arts, attending the theater and the opera. Travelling was also a favourite pastime: whether it be in Canada, the U.S., or abroad. Her other interests included golf, reading, crossword puzzles and the Blue Bombers. She was an avid fan. Her mother and father, Margaret and Richard Halsall, and brother-in-law Robert Stewart predeceased her. She is survived by her sisters, Iva Stewart and Margaret Grapes (Bert) brother Harry Halsall (Shirley) eight nieces and nephews of whom she was extremely proud; and 12 great-nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend Beverly Sorensen and numerous other friends. In honouring Ellas wishes there will be no funeral service. A private committal service will be held on Saturday, September 6. Thanks to the nurses and aides on GD 5 who cared for El with so much tenderness and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire to honour Ellas memory, contributions may be made to establish the Ella Halsall Memorial Scholarship for a young Daniel McIntyre woman who is planning on pursuing a career in pharmacy. (DMCI AACE Fund Inc., Box 2475, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A7) or to another charity of ones choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
