Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAPTAIN DONALD CLIFFORD DENISON Age 77 of Dartmouth passed away September 1, 2003 in the VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born 1926 in Indian Head, SK. He was a son of the late John and Muriel (McJannet) Denison. Don grew up near Morden, MB. He was a graduate of the class of 1953 from United College, now called the University of Winnipeg. Don served in the Canadian Army from 1945 to 1973, with postings across Canada as well as in Germany and Ghana, West Africa. He was proud of having been a member of the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). While serving in Ghana, Don became involved with a number development projects, particularly in the village of Mpeseduadse. These became a central passion for the rest of his life and led to his establishing "The Guggisberg Foundation". In recognition of his efforts on their behalf, the people of Mpeseduadse, Ghana named him an honorary chief (Tufuhene) and gave him the title of Nana Abbam Takyi 1. Since moving to Nova Scotia in 1965, Don also took a keen interest in promoting educational opportunities for the youth of the local communities of North Preston, Cherry Brook and East Preston. For many years Don sold his homemade jams and jellies at the Dartmouth and Halifax Farmers markets. He became known to many as "The Jam Man". Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley Allenby; daughter Heather (Scott) Mollins, Summerside, PEI; sons, Brian, Sherbrooke, PQ; Richard (Susan), Rankin Inlet, Nunavut; Gerald (Pam), Upper Tantallon, NS; brother Budd, BC; sisters, Doreen Hayward, Winnipeg; Elizabeth "Polly" (Bruce) Stinson, Winnipeg; Joyce Christie, Binscarth, MB; Flora (Bob) Hyttenrauch, Michigan; Peggy Lang, Winnipeg; grandsons, Andrew and Christopher Mollin, Allen Denison. He was predeceased by brother Bobby. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 5 and funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, both in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Pastor Neville Gosman officiating. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens with a reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Reception Center.
