HERMANIA "HERMIE" NORDAL Peacefully on August 30, 2003 at St. Boniface Hospital, Hermie passed away at the age of 89, to join her beloved husband Gudmundur Nordal, who predeceased her in 1988. Left to cherish her memories are her sister Helga Johnson; sister-in-law Grace Gudmundson and many nieces, nephews and spouses. Hermie was predeceased by her parents Juliana and Benjamin Gudmundson of Arborg, MB; sisters and brothers-in-law, Stebba (Gusti) Borgford, Gudrun (Bogi) Finnbogason, Lily (Gudmundur) Jacobson and brother-in-law Snibjorn Johnson; brothers, Valdimar (sister-in-law Merle) Gudmundson, Magnus and Franklin Gudmundson; nephew Steini Borgford; sister Blanche and brother Julius in infancy. Hermie was born on August 23, 1914 in Arborg. She was a member of the Ardal Lutheran Church. She studied music, piano and organ and received first class honours with the Toronto Conservatory of Music, was an avid curler and as a skip won the championship for the Arborg Ladies Curling Club. She enjoyed numerous trips to Iceland to visit her many cherished relatives. After moving to Winnipeg in 1953 she worked as a receptionist for Mayor Juba of Winnipeg. Upon completing a course at Success Business College was employed with the City of Winnipeg for 16 years, retiring in 1972. In their retirement years Hermie and Mundi purchased the Gudmundson family homestead where they spent many happy summers, caring for their country lawn and flowers. Together they enjoyed many hobbies, handicrafts, curling, golfing and were champs at playing bridge. Hermie was grateful for the wonderful care and compassion she received during her illness at Seven Oaks Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital and the personal home care workers. She greatly appreciated the care and support from Wally and Linda Finnbogason, Sandra Patterson, Karl and Kristine Bauernhuber, Richard Nordal. Also heartfelt thanks to all the families and friends who enriched her life. Cremation has taken place. A memorial farewell celebration of Hermies life will be held at Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Arborg at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6. Interment of Hermie and her husband Mundi will follow at the Arborg Community Cemetery. After the interment friends are invited to join the family for lunch at Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church. Goda Nott Elskan Min Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
