LAURA MILDRED BARRY Passed away peacefully on September 1, 2003, at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, with her family at her side. Laura joins her beloved husband, Frank, who predeceased her in 1992. Laura had just passed the considerable milestone of 90 years on August 30, 2003. The youngest of five children, Laura Smith, was born on the family farm just north of Ninga, MB. Laura was predeceased by her brothers, Fred and Clarence; and her sisters, Cora and Alma. Laura married Frank Barry on March 5, 1943. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage. Together, they raised one child, a daughter, Claudia. Laura was a keen gardener and a long time member of the Killarney Horticultural Society. She was a member of the Killarney United Church and served the UCW for many years. She had an avid interest in photography. Laura loved to curl and enjoyed participating in bonspiels. She enjoyed many social times playing bridge, cribbage and shuffleboard. Frank and Laura were enthusiastic about fishing, golfing and travelling with family. Laura was proficient at sewing and quilting. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for family and friends. In the last three months of her life, Laura took up watercolour painting and thoroughly enjoyed learning a new skill. Laura will always be loved and remembered by Claudia, son-in-law Rick Bunn; and grand-children, Lindsay and Jeffrey; sister-in-law Louise Barry and many dear nieces and nephews. Laura and Claudia were grateful for the wonderful care and compassion she received at Bayside Personal Care Home in Killarney and the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. A heartfelt thanks to the nieces and nephews who enriched her life. A memorial service to celebrate Lauras life will be held at the Wheatland Chapel, Killarney, MB at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 6. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
