Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLIONEL LEVENSON September 9, 1921 - August 28, 2003 Lionel, 81, lost his final battle to heart failure, peacefully at his home. Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 60 years, Beatrice (nee Kershner) his son, Reid and wife Glenda (nee Godinho) grandchildren Troy and Sabrina of Ottawa; his sister Evelyn Winston (nee Levenson) and numerous relatives in England; his sister-in-law Marsha (nee Kershner) and brother-in-law Lawrence Singer; nieces Donna Schechter, Debbie Berenhaut, Sherry Singer, Cindy Singer, Eileen Singer and their families. Born in England, he served as a Flight Lieutenant and Instructor in the R.A.F. during the Second World War in England, Canada and India. He met his wife in 1943 during training in Winnipeg, where he made his home. Most of his life was dedicated to helping manage the family business, Victoria Candy Co., with his father-in-law, Max Kershner, and Lawrence Singer. With a creative drive, through self-instruction, Lionel became a skilled carpenter and furniture maker; his most notable feat was managing, with the approval of his wife, the design and construction of his own home. Through his career, he earned qualifications in accounting, auto mechanics and real estate. Although the war interrupted his tertiary education goals of being an architect, his later acceptance into MENSA, served to prove his exceptional capability. Lionel led a virtuous life, pursuing truth and justice to their limits. His sense of humour will be missed. A private graveside service was conducted by Rabbi Rose on Sunday, August 31 at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kroeker, Dr. Poon, nurses, homecare workers, pallbearers and friends.
