EVELYN JANETTE GUSDAL Evelyn passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre on September 5, 2003, surrounded by family and friends. She is now safe and secure in the hands of her Lord and Saviour. Left to cherish the memories of her life are sister Norma (Roger) Hamilton and children, Leanne, Darrell, Heather, Laraine; brother Irving (Lindsey) Gusdal and children, Deanne, Jeffrey; sister Karen (Jim) Doak and children, Kristin (Derek), Stephen. Evelyn was born February 10, 1936 in Erickson, MB where she grew up and completed high school. She obtained her teachers certificate at Normal School in Winnipeg. Her teaching career took her to Brandon, Portage la Prairie, Transcona and Edmonton. She took time off from teaching to obtain a degree in Home Economics at the University of Manitoba, going on to work as a District Home Economist in Westlock, AB as well as a brief time as a Social Worker in Edmonton. She completed her professional career as a teacher in Edmonton and retired to Winnipeg. Evelyn became actively involved in many community activities, always with a sincere commitment and high standard for both herself and her associates in the quest to achieve their goals. Evelyn enjoyed many things: teaching children and adults, playing the piano and organ, all aspects of the performing arts, volunteering for many organizations and her sewing and stitchery which has left a legacy of handiwork for her friends and relatives to enjoy forever. Evelyn cherished family and friends and the times she spent with them. She was always available to provide a helping hand and moral support to anyone who needed her. She frequently co-ordinated major events, both work related and in her social life, grabbing an idea and pursuing it to completion. Evelyn had a particular passion for her heritage as evidenced by her efforts to complete the family tree and her involvement with the Bethel Lutheran Society (Erickson), the Scandinavian Cultural Centre (Winnipeg), along with her recent journey to Norway. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 12 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 200 Dalhousie Dr. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the entire staff on Riverview Health Centre section 3E. Their professionalism, compassion and support during Evelyns final journey were fantastic.
