Surrounded by loving family, Clara, aged 94, passed away December 10, 2002, at Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Hal was born May 17, 1907. He grew up and was educated in Oakville, MB. He joined the Bank of Montreal in July 1925, and continued in its service until his retirement in 1971. At the time of his retirement, he was manager of the Savings Department, Main Office, Winnipeg. Clara was born April 13, 1908, in Sanford, MB and taught school in country areas of Manitoba before her marriage, and in later years, was an elementary teacher in the Winnipeg school system. While teaching in The Pas, MB, she met Hal and they were married in 1938. Clara and Hal spent the next years raising their daughters, Georgene and Wendy, in Fort Garry and were active members in that community. For many years, Hal served on various boards of Fort Garry United Church and Clara taught Sunday school in the same church until she returned to teaching in 1958. She retired in 1970. Clara and Hal, beloved parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, had a long and happy retirement together. They enjoyed their cottage retreat at Caddy Lake, MB, and spent many fun filled years travelling in Canada and the United States. In 1974, they settled for winter months in Mesa, AZ, returning each summer to their apartment in West Vancouver, BC, and in 1990 to Powell River, BC. They continued to participate in community activities and took great delight in watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and develop. After Hals death in 1997, Clara moved to Arranglen Lodge, Qualicum Beach, BC. Clara and Hals long and busy lives have been an inspiration to their family and all who knew them.
