Date of Passing: Sep 05, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA KRENZ Peacefully, on Friday, September 5, 2003, with her son at her side, Anna passed away at the age of 97 years. She will be missed dearly by her son Victor and his wife Joyce along with her grandchildren, Serge and Danny; a daughter-in-law and her two sons along with numerous relatives and friends living in the Ukraine. Anna was predeceased by her husband George (age 69) and her mother Katherine both in 1969 and later by her oldest son Walter (age 57) in 1989. Born on February 6, 1906 in the village of Rachin, Volyn province, Ukraine, she grew up with her two brothers under poverty conditions. In 1930, she arrived in Canada to seek a new beginning and later that year married George in Saskatoon. They both worked at various farm and factory jobs during the Depression years and joined the Ukrainian Labour-Farmer Temple Association where she proudly continued cherishing her cultural roots. During the trying Depression years where employment and rations were the norm, Anna took part in delegations and protests during bitterly cold winters at the City Hall to have more milk allotted and rationed out to hungry children. Anna stayed home to raise her two boys and having moved briefly to Toronto, settled in Winnipeg in 1941 and lived there since. She continued to devote her energies to the family while enjoying writing and embroidering. Anna having been exposed to the horrors of war back in Europe, took part in the anti war movement. In the early 80s, when people were taking a stand against nuclear weapons, she diligently canvassed and gathered over 9,000 signatures in downtown Winnipeg! She actively took part in educational-cultural activities-singing for many years with the Barvinok Womens Ukrainian Choir, took part in drama groups, Ukrainian Senior Citizens Choir and was involved in many conventions. By being a life long member of the WBA and AUUC, she actively dedicated herself in improving the life of ordinary people. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ukrainian Labour Temple Foundation, 591 Pritchard Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 2K4 Arrangements were entrusted to Wojciks Funeral Chapel in Winnipeg.
