Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY J. (HARRY) BRIDGES With deep sadness the family announces the passing of our dear father, Harry. He was born in Souris on April 12, 1920 and passed away on September 5, 2003. His beloved wife Viv, his brothers, Tom and Bill; his sisters, Vera and Alice; and his daughter-in-law Rose predeceased him. He will lovingly be remembered by sons, Don (Sandy) and Ron; daughter Linda (Russell) Nordin; grandchildren, Donna (Gary) Dueck, Kathy (Chris) Wallmuth, Bonnie, Leah and Joey Nordin, Steven and Jeffery Bridges; great-grandchildren, David and Mark Dueck, Tarrant Nordin and Jillian Wallmuth; along with brother-in-law Tom Killbery; sisters-in-law, Grace Boyle and Vo (Johnny) Nicol; plus many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Harry lived on the farm in Souris and went to work at a very early age to help his family. He eventually moved to Winnipeg to marry his childhood sweetheart Viv and join the army. Together, they had three children and lived in Elmwood. Harry and Viv enjoyed being members of the Weston Legion and attended many activities with Vo, Johnny, Grace and Archie at the Imperial Vets Legion such as Bingo, childrens Christmas parties and dances. Harry enjoyed working for the Manitoba Telephone System and eventually retired as a Construction Foreman in 1980. He had many fond memories of coworkers and situations that he loved to share. He remained a proud member of the MTS Pioneers, IBEW Local 435, and was a card-carrying member of the NDP Party. Harrys greatest enjoyment in later years was tending to his Winnipeg and Teulon Gardens, his dewberries, grapes and strawberries. He loved baking and cooking using fruits and vegetables from his gardens. He was proud to be a member of the BeeKeepers Association and enjoyed working with his bees. He loved playing crib, fishing and spending time at Grindstone and Granite Lakes. He loved a challenge and could fix anything and everything and could make something out of nothing. Harry was a kind and gentle person who was always willing to help his family and friends. He loved people and would deliver honey and/or cookies to his "friends" at the local insurance company, bank or supermarket. He will truly be missed by many. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The family would like to thank Ann and Wayne Killbery for all the help and support they gave to Dad and us during his stay in Teulon. We would also like to thank Dads good neighbours Marion and Larry for helping him and looking out for him while he was still at home in Winnipeg. Our sincere thanks go to the staff at the Teulon Hospital for taking care of Dad and keeping him as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
