Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANASTASIA "NELLIE" DMYTERKO (nee DROZDOWSKY, nee KOWAL) Peacefully and with family at her side Nellie Dmyterko passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake, MB at the age of 100. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Anne Kondrat and Olly Drul (Myron) son Peter Kowal; son-in-law Walter Wasylenko as well as her step children, Elizabeth Dmytar, Steve Dmyterko, Syd Dmyterko (Margaret), Harry Dmyterko (Chris), John Dmyterko and Donald Dmyterko (Sandra) and daughters-in-law, Judi Shauffer and Sandra Dmyterko. She will be missed by her sisters, Rose Switzer and Emilia Hnatiuk. Also her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Emil Kowal (Linda) and children Tami Kowal-Denisenko (Serhiy) and Jason Kowal; Darlene Sherman (Larry) Zane Kowal; John Kowal; Dolores Drul; Iris Reaume (Randy) Darrell Wasylenko and son Curtis; Dwayne Wasylenko; Debbie Spitula (Dennis) and children Pamela and Marisa; Terry Kondrat (Marilyn) and children Melanie and Jeff; Arnold Kondrat (Carmen) and children Christopher and Alexandra;. Also the grandchildren from her extended family: Bruce Dmytar (Val) Calvin Dmytar (Genie) and children Matthew and Amy; Diane Doerntlein (Helmut) and children Levi, Dustin and Nadine; Brenda Passegger (Charlie) and children Sarah, Andrew and Laura; Jason Dmyterko; Sandy Dmyterko; Shelley Alambra (Carlos) and daughter Alayna; Debbie Donaghey (Hugh) and daughter Kiana; Sherri Laita (David) and son Zachary; Craig Dmyterko; Karin Younghans (Todd) and daughter Emily; Cheryl Hammond (Vern) and children Scott and Carey Heinrick and her daughter Kailey; Randy Dmyterko (Nancy), Kathy Dmyterko and children Samantha and Victoria; Sean Dmyterko (Robin) Brock Dmyterko (Ali) and daughter Sawyer; Keenan Dmyterko; Bradley Dmyterko; Kerri Long (Jeremy) and daughter Cheyenne; Shawna Dmyterko; Tina Dmyterko. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends. She was predeceased by: her parents Theodore and Anna Drozdowsky, her first husband Dmytro Kowal (1966) and her second husband Mike Dmyterko (1995) her brothers, Joe, Leo, Peter, Michael, William, Tony, Walter and Alex; her sisters, Mary, Mary, Dorothea and Josephine; her daughter Lesia Wasylenko; son-in-law Joseph Kondrat; daughter-in-law Marie Kowal, grandson Theodore Kowal, stepsons Maurice Dmyterko and Joe Dmyterko and step grandchildren Jacquelyn and Crawford (Harry Dmyterko) and Jacqueline (Donald Dmyterko). Nellie was born April 5, 1903 to Theodore and Anna Drozdowsky, the sixth of fifteen children. She married Dmytro Kowal on January 23, 1919 and they farmed at Olha, MB until moving to Oakburn in 1949. Nellie was a member of St. Volodymir Church and the Ukrainian National Home in Oakburn. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Womens Association, Lesia Ukrainka branch in Oakburn where she held a number of elected positions over the years. Nellie continued to live in Oakburn until 1971 when she married Mike Dmyterko and moved to Elphinstone where he resided. Her love for flowers and gardening was obvious to anyone visiting their home. She and Mike enjoyed travelling and visited a number of places throughout Canada and the United States. In 1996 Nellie moved to Morley House in Shoal Lake where she kept active visiting with friends, making crafts and helping out at the Nursing Home. Nellie was very proud of her heritage and she loved Ukrainian songs, music and dance. She was an accomplished seamstress and was widely known for her fine clothing creations. Her creativity extended into Ukrainian embroidery and the making of many beautiful quilts and crafts. She was well known as a gracious hostess and wonderful cook. Nellies greatest joy came from her family and friends. Everyone knew her as "Baba". Gatherings were never complete without a few stories, a game of cards or Nellie amazing everyone with her flawless memory. She was clearly an outstanding role model to those around her, both young and old. Nellie devoted her entire life to showering her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with much love and kindness. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the many caregivers at Morley House for the excellent care and comfort given to Nellie. They would also like to thank her numerous friends and relatives who visited with her on a regular basis. Also a big thank you to her special friends in Morley House who always looked out for her. Prayers will be held Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian National Home, Oakburn, MB. Divine Liturgy will be Friday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Volodymirs Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Oakburn, MB. Rt. Rev. Father Mitred Archpriest Nicholas Orest Rauliuk officiating. Pallbearers are: Zane Kowal, John Kowal, Darrell Wasylenko, Dwayne Wasylenko, Craig Dmyterko, and Bradley Dmyterko. Honorary Pallbearers are: Isabel Kozak, Emily Peleshok, Elsie Wasilka, Anne Drul, Lillian Ganza, Myron Drul, Emil Kowal, Larry Sherman, Dennis Spitula, Serhiy Denisenko and Mike Peleshok. The Cross Bearer is Jason Kowal. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Volodymirs Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Oakburn, MB or Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake, MB.
