Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySIGRUN ANNA KISSACK Passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Saturday, September 6, 2003. She was predeceased by her parents Sigurjon and Anna Johannsson; her husband Wilfred; and sister Steinunn. Sigrun was dear mother of Linda (Bruce) Alexander and Lloyd (Gloria) Kissack. She was also beloved Amma to Kristine and Jennifer Alexander, and Julianne and John Kissack. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sigrun was born on a farm outside of Gimli on June 8, 1915. She left home at age 17 to attend the University of Manitoba. She graduated with a B.A. in 1936 and received the Gold Medal in Education in 1937. After a short teaching career in Langruth, Sigrun married Wilfred Kissack and they settled into their lifelong home in Woodhaven. In the early 1950s, Sigrun became one of the first female real estate agents in Winnipeg. She and her husband owned and operated their own company, Kissack Agencies, for many years. She loved her work and did not retire until age 71. In the early 50s, Sigrun and Wilfred also built their cottage at West Hawk Lake. This was to become the focal point for wonderful family gatherings for the rest of her life. She loved the lake and was able to spend a month there this summer with daughter Linda. Sigrun was an avid learner, always looking for a new challenge. As well as being fluent in Icelandic, she took Spanish lessons and made numerous trips to Mexico to practice. In her latter years, she also excelled at contract bridge, becoming a Bridge Master, playing in many tournaments and teaching the game to others. She loved to travel and took many trips with her sister Steinunn. Sigrun was also an avid reader, loved to sew, crochet and knit, garden and enjoyed shopping. Her zest for life, positive attitude and keen sense of humour were an inspiration to us all. In her latter years, she had much to complain about - but she never did. Sincere thanks to Moms wonderful neighbours Herb and Helen Calverley and Mark and Karen Le Nabat (and Moochy). Also special thanks to the many homecare workers over the years who made it possible for Mom to stay in her beloved home. Sigrun was a great animal lover. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a pet rescue shelter of your choice. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow.
