GLADYS HOCHKIEVICH Gladys Hochkievich, aged 79, passed peacefully with family by her side on September 9, 2003 at Concordia Place Care Centre. Gladys and her twin brother Walter, were born June 21, 1924 in Polson, MB, part of a family of nine children. Gladys left the farm at a young age but her siblings continued to be an important part of her life and she treasured the support and care they gave her. Brothers, John, Andrew, Barney and Walter; and her sisters, Helen and Jean, predeceased her. Mary and Steve Nahirney, who held a special place in her heart, also predeceased her. Two sisters, Sophie and Jessie; and her in-laws, Josephine, Sonja, Mildred and Babe survive her. Mom had many nieces and nephews who she was very fond of and she appreciated their cards and contacts over the years. Gladys raised four children with love and gentleness. She lives on in the memories of her children and grandchildren, Barry and his children, Sabrina and Shannon, Harvey and his wife Norine and their children, Robert and Daniel, Bonnie and her husband Darren and their children, Lee and Ryan, and Wayne and his child Taylor. Mom had many struggles in her life but she found joy in the simple things that surrounded her. Home, family and friends were most important to her and their needs always came first. Moms greatest fault was never saying no to anyone. This was also one of her most beloved characteristics as her caring and generosity surrounded her with family and friends. Before illness made it difficult for her to manage, she valued the times she babysat her grandchildren and whenever they came over there was certain to be perogies for them to enjoy. She spent many hours playing bingo with Josephine and her other "bingo" buddies, times filled with laughter and joy. The family will always be thankful for the wonderful attention Mom received from the 2nd floor staff and volunteers at Concordia Place Care Centre. Aunt Josephine will hold a special place in each of our hearts for the tireless journeys she made to spend time with Mom. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St., Friday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer Society and pray that a time comes when our loved ones no longer suffer in this way.
