ALFRED JOHN SCHAW 1929 - 2003 Alfred John Schaw, 200 Ronald Street, Winnipeg, MB, passed away to heaven peacefully with his family by his bedside on September 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon at the age of 74. He is survived by his mother Lily Schau (Archer) wife Dorothy; loving daughters, Taraleen and Sharon; son John; grandchildren Wayne, Ruth, Maria, Mark, Christine, Laura, Paul, Thomas, and Kerri; great-grandchildren Adam, Travis, Brandon, Matthew and Cailyn; brothers, Chuck, Jerry, Jim and Darcy; sisters, Helen, Dolly, Phylis, Neva and Barbara. He was predeceased by his father John Schau; daughter Valerie; grandson Mark; and brother Herb. Alfred was born the eldest child of John and Lily Schau on April 30, 1929 in Winnipeg, MB. In September 1949, he joined the Canadian Army and subsequently transferred to the Air Force. He served his country with distinction for 22 years in Canada and England. He was awarded the NATO Service Medal for his service in Europe. In 1957, he married Dorothy May Spooner in Langar, England and returned to Canada in March of 1960, serving in Bagotville, PQ; Edmonton, AB; and Camp Borden, ON. He retired from the Air Force in February 1971 and joined Polydor Records in Mississauga, ON. During the next 20 years, he held positions in traffic and warehouse management with Mutual Warehousing, Canadian Hilti, Martin Brower Co., Becton Dickinson & Co., MacMillan of Canada, Doubleday Canada and Lyndon Securities. Alfred returned to Winnipeg in 1999 where he reunited with his mother and his brothers and sisters. He was always ready with a smile and good humour and loved music, books, films and chess. He found God through the Zion Apostolic Church and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff in Unit 3 North in Grace Hospital for their compassion and loving care. At Alfreds request, cremation has taken place and services will be held at on Thursday, September 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Schizophrenic Society Inc Manitoba, 3-1000 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0N3, The Zion Apostolic Church, 305 Machray Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1A3, The Salvation Army, PO Box 1932, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R2 or a charity of your choice.
