Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGOLDIE MICAY After a long and fulfilling life, Goldie Micay passed away at the Grace Hospital on September 12, 2003 at the age of 87. Goldie was the devoted mother of Judy Linhart of Paradise Valley, Arizona; Marcia Smithen Cohen of Katonah, New York; and Leonard Micay of Toronto; and loving mother-in-law of Sam Linhart and Jill Thompson; the adoring grandmother of Richard and Leora Linhart, Debi and Steven Wisch, Gary and Julie Linhart, Kevin and Corinne Smithen, Lindsay Smithen, and Daniel Micay; and proud great-grandmother of Tobey, Ariella, Eitan Archie, Zachary and Matthew Linhart, Jenna, Spencer, and Audrey Micay Wisch, and Chloe Smithen. She is also survived by a close circle of lifelong friends and a large and loving extended family including her sisters-in-law, Gertie, Irma, and Pearl Nepon, Claire Nelson and Faye-Parks Micay, and her brother-in-law, Abe Shaw. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Archie Micay; her parents, Jacob and Sarah Nepon; her eight siblings, Jerry, Harry, Sam, and Dave Nepon, Rose Morlock Alguire, Clara Rice, Esther Shaw, and Fanny Glesby, and her son-in-law Maurice Cohen. Born in Winnipeg, MB on November 22, 1915 and raised in Fraserwood, MB, Goldie moved to Winnipeg to attend high school. In 1939, she married Archie Micay. Together, they shared a rich and rewarding life defined by their commitments to each other, their families and their friends, and to many causes and interests. She was the past president of the Aliyah Chapter of Hadassah and a member of the Peretz School Muter Farein, the Liberal Party of Manitoba, the YMHA, and Bnai Brith Women. She and her husband supported many local institutions, including the Asper Jewish Community Center, where they endowed The Micay Childrens Room, and they were among the founders of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. For many years, they spent summers in Winnipeg Beach and winters in Miami and, in more recent years, Scottsdale, Arizona. Goldie was loving, loyal, generous, gracious, discreet, and completely devoted to her family and friends. Her profound decency set a standard for all who were fortunate to be part of her life. Goldie was renowned in the community for her talents as a hostess, cook, baker, and gardener, and she distinguished herself with her superb organizational skills. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge and to express its gratitude to the entire community of the Portsmouth Retirement Residence, both the residents and the staff, whose graciousness, friendship and kindness enriched Goldies final years. The family would also like to thank the palliative care staff at the Grace Hospital. They are especially grateful to Lynne Fineman, Medox, and the private caregivers who provided comfort, compassion, and friendship over the past three years. Funeral services were held at Congregation Etz Chayim in Winnipeg on Sunday, September 14. Interment took place at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Sid Halpern, Richard and Gary Linhart, Jack and Ira Micay, and Mark Nepon. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Bradley, Ron Gutnik, Harvey Lockshin, Ron Morlock, Leslie Nepon, Mel Shaw and Leo Steinfeld.
