DOROTHY JANE SNIDAL (1924 - 2003) Jane Snidal passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on September 12, 2003, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband Jim. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Jill), Duncan (Joan) and Alexander (Susan) her sister Mary Kirby; brother Jim Brayley; and eight grandchildren. Jane was born in Toronto and educated at Port Credit High School before attending Trinity College, University of Toronto and receiving an Honours Degree in political science and economics in 1946. In her final year she was Head of College of St. Hildas Residence at Trinity College. For four years she worked as Assistant Economist at the head office of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. Jane met her husband Jim while he was studying dentistry at the University of Toronto. They married June 4, 1949, and moved to Winnipeg in June 1950. For the next 14 years, Jane was a homemaker and an active volunteer with the Junior League and the Canadian Institute of International Affairs. She resumed her studies in economics at the University of Manitoba and received her M.A. Degree in 1967. For the next 20 years, Jane took further post-graduate courses at the University of Manitoba in addition to teaching full time at the University of Winnipeg. She retired in 1997 as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics. In retirement, Jane did volunteer work with the Age and Opportunity Bureau, Adult Education and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed travelling, bridge and company of friends in Winnipeg and Toronto and, of course, her three sons and their families. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 at St. Aidans Church, 274 Campbell St., in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity College, University of Toronto or the University of Winnipeg.
