Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPASTOR V. RICHARD DEDERICK August 21, 1928 - September 13, 2003 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Richard was called to his Lord after a lengthy illness. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his wife of 52 years, Esther; his children, Barb (Tom) Lemon, Laurie (Bill) Speers, Paul (Shona) Dederick; and special granddaughters, Stephanie, Kimberly, Allison and Kate. Richard was born in Winnipeg and worked for many years in funeral service but his heart was always with the Church. At the age of 43 Dad went to Seminary and was ordained as a Lutheran Pastor in 1974. He faithfully served congregations in Esterhazy/Churchbridge; Swan River/Birch River, and Kipling/Broadview as a beloved pastor, counsellor and friend. Children were a very special part of his ministry and many continued a lifelong relationship with him. His faithful service resulted in lasting friendships with his parishioners. Dad was an avid collector of classic model cars and eagerly shared this hobby with friends and relatives. Throughout his life he loved to play the piano and music always had a special place in his heart. We were very proud of Dad when he took up downhill skiing at the age of 55 and his love of the mountains remained central to his life. Since his retirement in 1995, Dad loved to spend time at the Speers cottage in Lake of the Woods where canoeing was his favourite pastime. Family was always so important in Dads life and his generosity and love will long be remembered. Dad, you have touched all of our lives and we will miss you. Prayers will take place on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St., Pastor Michael Kurtz to officiate. Interment will follow at Glenboro Cemetery beside his beloved in-laws, Ben and Lena Heidman. The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre (3GB) and extend great appreciation for the wonderful care Dad received at Deer Lodge Centre (3 East). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
