Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANET L. DICKSON (nee MEYERS) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at the Concordia Hospital. Janet Dickson, the first child of Jessie and Adam Meyers, was born on October 12, 1932. Her early years were spent in the St. Johns district of Winnipeg where she was a student at Ralph Brown, William Whyte, Luxton and St. Johns Tech. She attended Success Business College and was a member of Phi Rho Zeta Sorority. Upon her graduation she was hired by Success as a teacher. It was here that she met her future husband. Norman and Janet were married at St. Johns Cathedral in June 1957. They were blessed with two children, Sheryl and Jeffrey. She was especially proud of her grandchildren. She loved them with abandon and her favourite moments were those spent in their company. She enthusiastically supported their efforts and had looked forward to watching them grow. She instilled in her family a passion for learning and living in the world around them. She was a clerk-librarian at McLeod School from 1973 until the schools closing in 1997 forced her retirement. She was a lifelong member of St. Johns Cathedral. For many years she was a member of the E.K. Kiwanis Ladies Auxiliary and worked tirelessly to raise funds for those less fortunate. Always an avid gardener she had in recent years become a member of the E.K. Garden Club and her backyard become an enchanted garden as she broadened her knowledge. In her retirement years she was able to indulge in her passion for shopping, exploring tea houses with the ladies, and enjoying the company of her grandchildren. Life was an adventure. She and Norman enjoyed travelling to many places, Hawaii, Florida and the Caribbean, Las Vegas, England and especially California. Although a city girl, her most cherished days were spent at the cottage at Granite Lake where she was content to paddle the canoe or paddle her feet in the water. She was predeceased by her parents, Adam in 1986 and Jessie in 1998. Cherishing her memory are her husband Norman; her daughter Sheryl (Carey) her son Jeff (Alina) her beloved grandchildren, Laurysa and Travis Hunnie; her sister Linda (Larry) brother-in-law Fred Dickson (Marlene) nieces and nephews, Kevin Dickson, Barry Dickson, Laurie Murphy, Loreley Fehr, Jodi Bodnaryk and their children. She will be sadly missed by her dearest friends, Elaine Suppes, Joyce Oleksiuk, Anne Romanchuk and June Croxford. Many others who called her "Auntie" will also mourn her untimely passing. The family wishes to thank the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service for their quick response and heroic efforts, and Rachelle at Concordia Hospital for her compassion. To honour our mothers memory, please be kind to animals and hug a child.
