AGNES (LEWIS) WHITWELL It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Agnes Whitwell on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at the Morris Hospital after a brief illness. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her present husband Cliff; her three sons and two daughters, Danny (Darlene), granddaughter Tanya (Dan), great-granddaughters, Adison, Danika and Ashley; Bob (Carolyne), grandsons, Jason (Jennifer) and Colin; Kathy Wintoniw (Ernie), granddaughters, Jen and Becky; Kevin (Shelia), grandsons, Tevor and Bradley; Colleen Sawatzky (Tom) her stepdaughter Linda (Roy), Chad and Kimberly; stepsons, Bob, Ron (Bonnie). Agnes was born in Vermillion, AB on November 18, 1920. As a young child, Agnes moved with her family to Watrous. SK. In her late teens, Agnes meet Dan Lewis and they were married on October 9, 1939. After being stationed in Rivers, MB with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Dan and Agnes moved to Somerset, MB where Dan worked for three years as a baker. Three weeks before the 1950 flood, Dan and Agnes bought the Emerson Bakeshop. Agnes raised a family of five and assisted in the operation of the bakery for 33 years. Spending the morning running the family household and the afternoon serving the public at the family business. During her time in Emerson, Agnes was an active member of the community as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Purple, and the New Horizons Club. Agnes has assisted in many fowl suppers, flood relief and charity work. Agnes married Cliff Whitwell on February 19, 1994 and they happily shared companionship golfing, going to the Casinos, playing cards at the New Horizons Club, travelling, dancing, walking and visiting family up until her passing. She always had an optimistic outlook on life even through her illness. She was predeceased by her first husband Dan in 1983 and all of her siblings. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. 1098-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the Heart and Stoke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emerson United Church with interment following at the Emerson Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Wiebe Funeral Home, Altona, MB.
