Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER LIONEL BAXTER June 10, 1923 - September 14, 2003 Peter Lionel Baxter passed away with dignity and grace at Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre, Owen Sound, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered with great love by Evelyn, his wife of 54 years; son John (Miranda) of Edmonton and their daughter Stephanie; daughter Charlotte Jones (Kent) of Corner Brook and their children, Margaret and Cary; daughter Susan Baxter of Owen Sound and her daughter Grace; and daughter Mary Baxter (Robert Osthoff) of London. He will also be greatly missed by his brother Robert of Winnipeg and children, Pamela, Holly, Nancy, David and Robert; and cousin Mary Day of Kingston. He is predeceased by his parents, Lieutenant-Colonel Lionel Baxter and Elsie Baxter; and his son Andrew. After serving as a lieutenant in the Canadian army in the Second World War, Peter attended McGill University (B.A. Economics). He had a long and successful career in the Canadian investment business, based in Winnipeg in his early years and later in Toronto where he became Director of Investments for the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Board. He was a committed volunteer to the causes in which he believed and throughout the years demonstrated a remarkable devotion to his family and church. He loved his work and was proud of his achievements, perhaps the greatest of which was the effort he made each day to embody the values of honesty and compassion in which he so deeply believed. His actions were an inspiration to many and his keen wit a delight. God Bless, Peter. A memorial will be held at St. Georges Anglican Church in Owen Sound on Saturday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Winnipeg with a memorial service there to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the MRI fund at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre, the Parkinsons Foundation of Canada and the Motion Disorder Clinic at the Toronto Hospitals, and may be made through the Tannahill Funeral Home, 1-866-376-3710.
