CYRIL GALLOWAY On September 16, 2003, Mr. Cyril Galloway (Cy) passed away at Calvary Place surrounded by his family. Cy is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 54 years; his children, Leslie, Sharon, John (Donna), Jim (Arlene) and three special grandchildren, Katie, Danny and Alexis whom he dearly loved. He is also survived by his brother Percy; his brothers-in-law, Robert (Toey), Jack; sister-in-law Rexina; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Cy was born in Souris, MB on July 21, 1916. In his younger years, he would live in numerous towns in Western Canada as his father was a Chief Dispatcher with the CPR. Eventually his family returned to Kenora, ON, a town full of special memories for Dad. It was in Kenora that he would start his career in the grocery business, a career that would span the next 52 years and where he met his wife Eleanor. Cy will be remembered by many community members in St. James as the owner of Cys Tom Boy for 26 years. It was at Cys that we all learned about teamwork, a work ethic and the importance of customer service. Many of our customers became good friends. Dad had an amazing ability to remember peoples names. He would stand at the front of the store in his green apron greeting and asking people how they were doing. This is a skill that he would carry with him until his death. Cy loved his wife and family, "the camp" on Lake of the Woods, his dog Sam, his trips to various arenas to watch his grandchildren play ringette and hockey, his music on Sunday mornings, and his store where he worked until he was 78 years old. He loved his family unconditionally and supported all of their efforts. He was a loyal friend who had a wonderful sense of humour. He loved sports and for many years, cheered for the Bombers, the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Cardinals. He faced his journey with Alzheimers disease with courage. We are grateful for the care that our husband and dad received at Calvary Place where he has lived for the past 22 months. We will remember with fondness our numerous visits with Dad. He especially loved "ice cream nights". We thank all of our family and friends for their support during our journey with Dad. Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
