WALTER ZYLICH 1918 - 2003 Walter Zylich, beloved husband of Ann, passed away at the Victoria General Hospital on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at the age of 85 years. Walter was born in Brandon, MB, spent his youth in Virden, MB and resided in Winnipeg since 1966. Walter is survived by his children, daughters, Beverly (Gary) Campbell, Shirley Wishnowski (Brent Tomchuk), Terry Reid (Ken Leslie) and sons, Gerald (Bonnie Simpson), Stephen (Susan David) and six grandchildren. Walters career at Manitoba Hydro spanned 40 years until his retirement 20 years ago. Following the initial rural Manitoba electrification program in which he was involved, he was district supervisor at Pipestone, Vita and Cartwright, MB. With his transfer to Winnipeg he was a technical specialist on DC transmission lines which involved extensive travel in northern Manitoba. Following his retirement, Walter pursued his life-long interest in flying as a member of the Winnipeg Flying Club where he served as a member of the Board of Directors, and was an active member of the Manitoba Aviation Council, and the Western Canadian Aviation Museum. In 1986, he was a founding member of the Canadian Air Search and Rescue Association in Manitoba. In the Winnipeg Zone, he served as Assistant Chief Pilot, Chief Pilot, Deputy Zone Commander and Zone Treasurer. Walter had accumulated a total of over 244 exercises and 86 searches. Walter had many other wide and varied interests. He formed many friendships over the years and was always ready, willing and able to help others in their undertakings. He will be fondly remembered and missed by everyone who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will be held in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
