KENNETH COLLETT Born September 20, 1922, the tenth person born in the village of Tuxedo. Most of his formative years were spent growing up on Regent Avenue in Transcona, attending Central School, with a brief stint in Toronto, during the Depression years with his brother Ozzy. Ken later served as Airframe Mechanic in the R.C.A.F. across Canada from 1942 to 1945. Upon return, he rejoined the Stores Department of the C.N.R. and later advanced his education at Success Commercial College. Ken joined the Lake of Woods Milling Co. (later Ogilvie Flour Mills) in 1955. Ken retired as Accountant and Office Manager on October 31, 1982. Ken always claimed that he and his pals survived the years of the Great Depression through their close involvement in sports. Ken was an accomplished skater and hockey player in his youth, spending most of his spare time on the ice at the Pirates Community Club. He later went on to coach minor hockey for several years for the Pirates. Ken also had a love for the games of football and later curling, playing weekly in the Central Mixed league and then with the Transcona Seniors for many years. He took up golf, with a passion, at the age of 69. Ken was always very proud of his four grandchildren and spent many hours explaining tools, sports and just having fun with them. Babysitting was one of his specialties. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Ethel Collett; brothers, Oswald (Bessie), Ralph (Margaret) and sister Rene (Tom) Copeland. Ken is survived by his loving wife Iris; son Brent (Chantal) daughter Karen (Clement) Lang; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jordan and David Lang and Emily Collett (Whitby, ON) numerous nieces and nephews, Sidney and Les, Pat and Garry (both of California), Gord, Audrey and Bob (Winnipeg), Dianne, Stuart and Ken (Victoria, BC) sisters-in-law, Joan (Ted) Davidson and Norma (Lynn) Wood. Ken Collett passed away peacefully on September 19, 2003, following a lengthy illness at the age of 81 years, less a day, surrounded by the love of his family.
