JOHN FORBES Peacefully at River East Personal Care Home on Friday, September 19, 2003 at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by his wife Lillian in 1995, his brothers, Roy, Robert and sisters, Peggy, Jessie and Isabel. John is survived by sons, Don (Lyndsey) of Calgary, Alan (Verla) of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Carolyn, Rebecca, Rachel, and Jenna; two sisters, Jean Lachance and Edna (Mel) Haynes; cousin Herb (Bev) Copland and nieces and nephews. Born in Keewatin, ON, Johns family moved to Transcona where they operated a farm until the late 1940s. In the 1950s, John drove moving vans all across Canada with Allied Van Lines. His experiences yielded many stories of interesting characters, beautiful scenery and bad roads. He continued his association with Allied in the 1960s and 1970s working with Leslies Storage and Armstrong the Mover with a brief stint delivering home heating fuel for Shell Oil. John married Lillian in 1954 and they raised their family in Winnipeg. John never forgot his Scottish ancestry which he demonstrated with his frugal and stubborn nature. Most of all though, he will be remembered for his sense of humour. Throughout his long life he enjoyed gardening, carpentry and watching sports on T.V. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy #1 East at Navin with interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Misericordia Personal Care and River East Personal Care Home for their professional care and compassion.
